CNN —Fashion writer Patrick Mauriès first met Karl Lagerfeld in 1981, after he quoted the fashion designer in a short book he had written about contemporary fashion and culture. As Lagerfeld became more of a public figure in the 1990s and 2000s, he increasingly sought homes that could act as retreats, said Mauriès. There’s a New (Old) It Girl in Paris
  + stars: | 2024-03-01 | by ( Vanessa Friedman | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
For years the Chloé Girl was effectively another, more branded, version of the It Girl. I can’t think of another label that has such an imaginary person, rather than a logo, to embody it. That Chloé Girl is redolent of youth and energy; of freedom and romping in the sun-kissed daisy fields. She is a little bit hippie, a little bit rocker, a little bit romantic and a lot insouciant. And although that version of the Chloé Girl had been absent from fashion for awhile, on Thursday in Paris Chemena Kamali, the new creative director of Chloé, brought her back.

CNN —Fashion’s biggest night of the year is just around the corner, and the Met Gala red carpet theme has finally been announced — along with superstars Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth as this year’s co-chairs. Florals are sure to abound on this year’s red carpet thanks to the theme “The Garden of Time,” but the novel it takes inspiration from has darker undertones. PARIS (AP) — An air of surrealism enveloped Chanel’s Spring Couture show Tuesday as celebrity guests including Naomi Campbell and Kendrick Lamar faced a navigational challenge: walking past a towering pair of open metal scissors. Here are some highlights of Tuesday’s spring couture shows:BUTTONS AND BALLETThe button is a humble icon, but it was not always so. Viard used the button-jewels as a spice for the drama of the ballet stage, scattering them across contrasting and often segmented silhouettes. The house was keenly aware of its history: 2024 marks a century since Coco Chanel first ventured into ballet design. In a world that often seeks the innovative, Mabille reminds us of the enduring allure of classic couture.

For years in fashion, it was trendy for one designer to helm two brands: their own, usually a relatively small one, and a big heritage house at which they acted as, essentially, talent for hire. John Galliano did it, so did Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang and Karl Lagerfeld (well, he actually ran three brands). Then, as tends to happen, industry wisdom decided this was not really a good idea. It was too draining, too complicated and a designer should be fully committed to one brand. But exactly why it’s so hard for one designer to serve two masters was rarely more obvious as it was on Tuesday at Peter Do’s fantastic first show in Paris — which took place about two weeks after his ho-hum first show as creative director of Helmut Lang, in New York.

Milan Fashion Week follows New York and London events in which designers have been presenting their creations for spring/summer 2024. A patchwork of fabrics recreated Fendi's F logo on coats and dresses through "a playful and abstract exploration" of the symbol Karl Lagerfeld created in 1966, a year after joining the Roman brand as creative director.
